The Superlative Jaguar XJ.
During it's registration to Jaguar, between 1 August 1968 and May 1970, No.19 saw service with Norman Dewis' test and development team as well as with the press team. This entailed extensive endurance and climatic testing on the continent - the long run down to Asturias for example - as well as time at the MIRA test circuit at Nuneaton.
The experience gained as a result of work on the development cars was vital preparation for a successful model launch. By then, the XJ had been exhaustively fettled; its legendary road manners were universally praised in motoring press road tests; and the enormous success of the new saloon that Jaguar had pinned its hopes on was assured.
